Description
Invasive fungal sinusitis is a very rare condition
in the UK, especially in the absence of immunosuppression.
We describe a 62 year old immunocompetent lady with persistent
unilateral sino-nasal symptoms who was diagnosed unexpectedly
as suffering from chronic invasive fungal sinusitis. The maxillary
and ethmoid sinuses were involved with erosion of the orbital
wall. The case is presented as a cautionary tale, highlighting
the possible unusual presentations and potential catastrophic
complications of invasive fungal sinusitis. The available
literature has been reviewed and management strategy suggested.
