Abstract
New evidence is rapidly emerging which can guide clinicians in the prescription of drugs for BPSD. Whilst there are few head-to-head comparisons of drugs, clinicians will increasingly take account of the superior side-effect profile of atypical neuroleptics. Carbamazepine, trazodone and cholinesterase inhibitors are also finding a place. This review includes data from published studies and unpublished reports from the 1999 Vancouver IPA conference.
