defined resistant depression as:
“…. an ongoing and unremitting depressed tate in
a patient as defined by his/her physician and who
has been unsuccessfully treated with at least two
different antidepressants or an antidepressant
and/or course of ECT”. Although this is not
unreasonable,about a third of patients, whether
young2 or old3
, do not respond to antidepressant
monotherapy; so treatment decisions based on
poor prior response are often required earlier than
such definitions allow.
