Description

Abstract

This paper provides a summary of recent work carried out by psychologists working with older people in memory clinic settings. It reviews the current functions, policies and activities of memory clinics in the UK. Issues of consent, giving a diagnosis and early intervention are briefly discussed. A number of psychological therapies considered helpful in early stages of dementia are outlined. The future direction of memory clinics is considered in light of increasing awareness of dementia and raised expectations of services by the general public encouraged by recent research developments.
