Description
Dissecting intramural haematoma of the oesophagus (DIHO) is a rare, but probably under-diagnosed cause of “atypical chest pain”. Here we present two cases which demonstrate many of the known features of the condition. Endoscopy is safe and diagnostic, although the endoscopic features change rapidly and may be misinterpreted. It is an important diagnosis to make as it generally runs a benign course with conservative management. However, it may be exacerbated by anti-coagulation given for the differential
diagnoses of pulmonary embolic or ischaemic heart disease.
