Description
Tracheostomal stenosis is a common problem in patients
who have had a laryngectomy. Long-term management is
surgical, however in the short-term a lary tube or stoma
button can be inserted to hold the stoma open. To allow
insertion of the tube or button, dilatation of the stoma is
often required. We describe the use of aural speculums as a
method of tracheostomal dilatation. This is a simple and
effective technique using equipment readily available in
clinic.
