Description
The effective training of Specialist Registrars (SpRs) in
public health medicine is essential if tomorrow’s consultants
are to be able to meet the challenges of public health in
the 21st century. The Faculty of Public Health Medicine states
that the aim of higher medical training is to equip the Specialist
Registrar with the knowledge, skills and attitudes required
to practice responsibly and competently as a consultant in
public health medicine. There
are various mechanisms in place to ensure adequate training
of SpRs. The Faculty Visits to each Deanery assess training
facilities and processes. The annual RITA assessment gauges
the performance of each SpR. However, there is no systematic
method of collecting information from individual SpRs about
their training programme and using this information to address
local training issues.
