Description
Dementia care has developed dramatically over the past few years, not only because of advances in the bio-medical sciences but also because of the growth of knowledge in other fields such as communication, therapeutic activities and environments, and carer support. Eight Dementia Services Development Centres exist (six in the UK) to make the latest expertise in dementia care available quickly, cheaply and easily to any staff and volunteers who need it. Old age psychiatrists have been heavily involved in these developments but can also use the centres to improve the effectiveness of their own services.
