We were interested to read the recent article on “Modern Techniques in Airway Management”but were slightly disappointed in the authors rather negative attitude towards percutaneoustracheostomy. This is a method which is widely used in our hospital with more than half of the tracheostomies in the intensive care unit being performed in this way. It is an elegant and straightforward procedure provided certain protocols are adhered to.
