Description
Following approval for cochlear implantation (CI) in children by the United States FDA in June 1990 this treatment has now become widely available and is now the accepted method of providing (re)habilitation for children who are unable to benefit from conventional accoustic hearing aids. Of a total of over 15,000 cochlear implants carried out worldwide to date approximately 7,000 have been performed in children; within the United Kingdom approximately 500 implants have been carried out in children.
