Description
This review examines the evidence for the effectiveness of chemoprevention of breast cancer. Four clinical trials on the use of tamoxifen to prevent breast cancer have reported mixed results. A fifth trial using raloxifene has also been published. The overall evidence supports a reduction in the risk
of breast cancer, but whether this benefit outweighs the risks and side-effects associated with tamoxifen is unclear. Whether this will provide long-term clinical benefit and which subset women who are at risk will benefit remains uncertain.
