Description

Background: Chloroma of the breast is a rare diagnosis. Its clinical, radiological and pathological diagnosis are perplexing. However, there are special characteristics and procedures which make this diagnosis easier.

Methods: We report a case of chloroma of the breast and a review of 14 cases of similar presentation in the literature aiming at explaining the criteria for diagnosis.

Results: This study included 15 female patients diagnosed with chloroma of the breast. 14 of them had unilateral lesion and one had bilateral lesions. Misdiagnosis was found in 66.7% of cases. Carcinoma was the commonest misdiagnosis, 55.6%, followed by lymphoma 22.2%.

Conclusion: Combined clinicoradiological picture should raise the suspicion for a diagnosis of chloroma of the breast. Pathology is the only definite diagnostic measure, but performance of immunocytochemistry and histochemical stains and markers are essential for accurate diagnosis.
