Description
Diffuse Idiopathic Skeletal Hyperostosis [DISH] is a
relatively common radiological finding in the adult
population, but for it to cause dysphagia is very rare. The
authors report a seventy-three year old man with dysphagia
and irritation on swallowing, whose Barium films showed
extensive ossification of the anterior spinal ligament,
indicating a diagnosis of DISH. The symptomatology,
diagnosis, radiological features and treatment of the condition
are discussed. Conservative management is advocated, with
surgery being reserved severe cases.
