Description
Bleomycin pulmonary toxicity (BPT) is potentially one of the most serious complications of cancer therapy. Whilst there are well described risk factors for the disease including renal impairment and administration of doses above 450,000 units, cases can also occur in low risk patients receiving standard doses of chemotherapy. This review centres on the clinical course of a patient with severe BPT that was successfully treated with prolonged high dose steroid therapy. The value of differing approaches for the early detection of bleomycin toxicity and historical and current approaches to the treatment of BPT are discussed.
