Description
A survey of 413 requests for IgG subclass levels in adult patients with suspected immunodeficiency showed a strong correlation between the levels of each of the four subclasses and the total IgG. This lead to a policy of not measuring subclass levels if the total IgG was above 11g/l. A subsequent audit showed that the policy was workable, cost effective and very unlikely to compromise the diagnosis of clinically significant immunodeficiency.
