Description

The traditional apprenticeship model within medicine has now largely disappeared giving way to structured training, clearly defined competencies, transparent assessments and increased emphasis on self-directed learning. In 2010, the Geriatric Curriculum was updated1 in line with this and training programme directors must ensure their training placements can fulfil the new curriculums requirements. An important element of any programme development is its evaluation. The North Western Deanery demands all specialities map the competencies available to the curricula. We used curriculum mapping to determine trainees views on whether the new 2010 Geriatric curriculum competencies can be achieved within the current design of the North-Western Deanery training programme.
