Pleural disease is a commonly encountered clinical problem which can be both complex and challenging. Several guidelines are available for the investigation and management of pleural effusion, pleural infection, and malignancy related effusion. This article aims to provide an overview of pleural disease and current guidance. It also addresses how newer imaging and interventional techniques have improved the management of pleural disease in older people.
