Description

Septic thrombosis of the cavernous sinus is a rare and potentially fatal complication of a variety of infectious processes in the head and neck region. Since the advent of antibiotics, the incidence and mortality of this condition has decreased. Nevertheless, the disease still carries a significant risk of morbidity and mortality and early diagnosis and appropriate therapy is essential.1 We describe a patient who was initially diagnosed with left orbital cellulitis and progressed to develop symptoms and signs bilaterally. Bilateral cavernous sinus thrombosis was subsequently diagnosed on the basis of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
