Vestibular Schwannoma (Acoustic Neuroma) and the facial nerve. What you need to know.

Description

The facial nerve is intimately related to the vestibulocochlear nerve early in its course. Although it is rare for it to be clinically affected by a tumour such as a vestibular schwannoma preoperatively, treatment such as surgical removal or stereotactic radiotherapy can result in temporary or permanent, paresis or paralysis. An understanding of the factors resulting in a facial palsy is a useful guide to treatment, especially with regards to protection of the eye.
