Description

Ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM) is a new and exciting imaging modality in ophthalmology. It provides in vivo ultrasound pictures of anterior segment structures at a magnification approaching that of light microscopy. It is ideal for the investigation of subsurface lesions and lesions under opaque media. Arguably however, it is most useful in the investigation of types of glaucoma caused by or associated
with anatomical abnormality, for example plateau iris and malignant glaucoma. This article describes the UBM features of such glaucoma cases. It also discuss the UBM role in the morphological assessment of drainage blebs and the investigation of post operative hypotony.
