Description

As the population continues to age it is increasingly important for physicians to have an understanding of conditions that may present for the first time in older people or be carried into old age. An appreciation of the characteristics and differences in presentation of inflammatory bowel disease in older people will facilitate diagnosis and ensure appropriate treatment. The diagnosis of inflammatory bowel disease in older people may be challenging. Patients of all ages should be investigated in the same way. The treatments available to younger and older patients are the same. However, factors such as co morbidity and polypharmacy may limit treatment options in older age.
