Description
Normal breathing occurs through the nose, which has the task of filtering, warming and humidifying the inspired air. The external nose consists of the nasal bones and the upper and lower lateral cartilages. The nasal cavity is divided into right and left by the nasal septum and each cavity is divided into three parts which include the nasal vestibule, an olfactory region and respiratory region. Each cavity has a lateral wall which is complex and dominated by three turbinates. The paranasal sinuses (which are paired air filled spaces within the skull) drain into the nose around the middle turbinate.
