Description
Thyroid malignancy is relatively rare. The carcinomas show a wide range of appearances and their histological classification is crucial for correct treatment and prognostication. Papillary carcinoma is the most common and it has subtypes, some of which have prognostic implications and others pose particular diagnostic problems. Knowledge of the genetic aberrations associated with thyroid cancer is growing and histological subtyping may have important implications for the patients family.
