Description

Since the introduction of the combined oral contraceptive pill more than 40 years ago, research has continued in a quest for better contraceptive choices combining efficacy, safety, reversibility, lack of nuisance side effects, ease of use and longer duration of action.  The current status of hormonal contraception is reviewed with special emphasis on recent developments including long acting steroidal delivery systems, male contraception and emergency contraception.
