Description
Prostaglandins play an important therapeutic role in womens health because of their effects on the cervical and myometrial tissues of the pregnant and non- pregnant uterus. Prostaglandin analogues have overcome the limitations of natural prostaglandins and are now routinely used in the medical therapeutic abortion and as a cervical ripening agent prior to surgical termination of pregnancy. They are also being investigated as a cervical priming agent prior to hysteroscopic procedures.
