Editor – I welcome the idea of having a journal which addresses points of interest in our specialty but it is clearly important that the information contained in the articles should be accurate. Ian Stuarts article on the management of low grade cervical intra-epithelial neoplasia1 contains a dangerous inaccuracy when he says that there is no evidence that delay in referral for colposcopy by 6 months will increase the incidence of invasive cancer compared with immediate referral. In this he quotes Moodi Shaffi who would be unlikely to support that point of view today. There is clear evidence that a policy of cytological surveillance of women with mild dyskaryosis does subject them to an increased risk of developing cervical carcinoma (Soutter & Fletcher BMJ 1994, 308: 1421-3). The interests of continuing medical education are not well served by selective quotation from the literature.
