Description

This edition of CME Radiology sees a change in leadership with
the appointment of two new co-editors to replace Dr Jane Adams
who is stepping down after several years of successful stewardship. Dr
Adams has made a major success of the Journal and it is with some trepidation that we have
agreed to takeover for her. On behalf of all the readers of CME
radiology we would like to extend our thanks to Dr Adams for
providing a source of educational and stimulating articles throughout
her editorship.

The new editors are Professor Alan Jackson a neuroradiologist
from Manchester and Dr Stephen G Davies a general radiologist subspecialising
in musculoskeletal radiology, from Royal Glamorgan
hospital in South Wales.

One of the major advances which all radiologists are faced with is
the introduction of fast multi-slice CT systems which have had a
major impact on practice in most areas particularly over the last two
to three years. This edition presents an overview of this technology
as well as a review article on the use of CT in patients with acute
abdomen. Another area of continuing development is magnetic
resonance imaging of the liver and Reticulo- endothelial system with
the development of a broad range of new contrast agents now
available for clinical use. Janice Ward from St James’ hospital presents
a thorough overview of these novel agents and their potential
applications and values. Finally, “state-of-the-art” reviews of MR in
the hand and wrist and of benign gynaecological disease provide
refresher courses in these complex and difficult areas.
