Description

Welcome to volume 7 number 1 of the Journal. This will be
last edition that I will be producing. After 5 years it is now
the right time for me to hand over the baton to a worthy
successor, and that person will be Dr Duncan Forsyth of the Addenbrookes
Hospital, Cambridge. Duncan, whom many of you will know by reputation, is
a Consultant Geriatrician with special interests in Parkinsons Disease and
Dementia, and he has been a distinguished contributor to this Journal. I am
certain he will do a fine job, and take the Journal on to its next phase of
development. In the last 5 years we have seen the Journal grow in readership,
credibility and quality, and I am grateful to all the authors, editorial board
members and readers for the help they have given me in the task. Perhaps the
most important milestone was the adoption of the Journal by the British
Geriatrics Society as part of the CPD infrastructure. I know Duncan is planning
to build on that foundation over the next few years.

For this edition we have a very timely Special from Lee and James on the
nutritional needs after acute stroke; highly topical in the light of the much
awaited FOOD trial. That is followed by an excellent line-up of reviews on
diverse topics and two interesting case reports.
Please continue to support the Journal through contributions, commentary
and feedback.
