Description
Domestic violence is age-old human problem and one of the fastest-growing violent crimes in the world. The epidemic is becoming too obvious to hide, too widespread to deny, and too much of a health hazard to ignore. The victims are children, adults, and the society as a whole. The perpetrator is usually a family member, intimate partner, or caretaker. The term includes physical, sexual, and psychological abuse of the victims. Because of the enormity, and seriousness of the problem, a multidisciplinaryapproach of public health physicians, health care providers, educators, legislators, social workers, and law enforcement professionals is necessary with an emphasis on primary prevention. This includes awareness of risk factors and early identification of the victims followed by prompt application of most effective intervention programmes.
