Description

It is a pleasure for my co-editors and me to welcome you to this exciting new venture. The CME Journal in Gastroenterology, Hepatology & Nutrition is the first of its kind in our field. Unlike other journals, the CME Journal actively embraces evaluable continuing medical education in what we hope is an instructive but also entertaining format. We have compiled a series of review articles on topical themes, critical commentaries on original research published elsewhere, illustrative case reports and a section on teaching. What makes our approach unique is that each section is accompanied by a set of multiple choice questions based on the material presented. The answers will be provided in our second issue, which is due early in the New Year. In the meantime you are welcome to complete the computer check-list (memories of MRCP Part 1) and return it to us. The point is not to test whether you achieve an arbitrary pass mark but to concentrate your minds and to confirm that at least some thought has been given to the subject matter. We hope to be able to arrange with the Royal College of Physicians for approval of this route to external CME points, and to be able to issue appropritate certification in due course. This method has been piloted by our sister journal in ENT in conjunction with the Royal College of Surgeons and has proved remarkably successful.

We have an Internet presence already- http://www.rila.co.uk and aim to place as much of the journal as possible on the ‘net’ in the very near future. The only things that will definitely not appear are the answers to the current issues MCQs; although these too will appear once the “closing date” has passed.

We hope, but are immodest enough to expect, that you will like the Journal and will look forward to its receipt every 4 months. We are fortunate to have secured sponsorship that make its delivery possible to every ordinary member of the BSG and to all identified specialist registrars in gastroenterology.

The first edition naturally lacks a correspondence column but we wish to encourage a dialogue with our readers. We will always try to respond positively to your comments and particularly so if they are critical. Please write to me at Rila Publications (CMEGastro) or at St. Mark’s, fax me on 0171-580-7166, or send e-mail to 106206.1472@compuserve.com. Ultimately the success of the Journal lies in your hands, but we feel confident that it will come to fill an important place in British Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition.
