Description
Infective discitis is a rare but important cause of back pain in older adults. There is often a delay in diagnosis but prognosis is generally quoted as good, most patients being cured by a course of antibiotics in addition to external immobilisation. There are few reports of discitis caused by Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). We present two cases of MRSA discitis in older men, which failed to respond to appropriate antibiotic treatment, demonstrating a poorer prognosis.
