Abstract
The management of post-operative bowel decompression and feeding stirs up strong feelings amongst clinicians, probably because there is very little evidence to support or refute their claims. The current literature is reviewed in an attempt to present an evidence-based approach to their management and describe techniques for attaining these goals.
