Description

Introduction Prospective studies suggest that up to 3% of patients on heparin develop antibodies to the heparin-platelet factor 4 (PF4) complex. The incidence of thrombotic complications and the mortality in this group of individuals is high. We report the case of a 63-yearold woman with Type II heparin induced thrombocytopaenia (HIT) and review the recent advances in the pathophysiology of this condition and the broadening therapeutic options.
