Many crown preparations involve significant removal of enamel and dentine. There is documented evidence that a significant proportion of crowned teeth are associated with periapical pathology. This review aims to identify how the pulp deals with the threat to its vitality during the steps involved in crowning a tooth and how the threat can be minimised.
