Description

Visual hallucinations in older people are often misinterpreted as a sign of early dementia. Charles Bonnet syndrome is characterized by visual hallucinations in cognitively normal individuals with visual impairment. Physicians are unfamiliar with the condition and patients are often fearful of reporting their hallucinations. Establishing the correct diagnosis is important given the distress and serious implications of the alternative diagnosis.
