Description
This paper details the current techniques for the detection of caries using non-invasive techniques, namely laser autofluorescence, electric conductance measurement, and fibre optic transillumination. In addition to a description as to how each of the modalities function, consideration is given to recent advances and changes in the relevant technologies, and a comparison of relative benefits and shortfalls of the systems. Account is given of experience with the use of a system based on laser autofluorescence technology, including suggestions for the extended application of the system.
