1. Epidemiology
Latex allergy appeared apparently out of the blue in 1979 with a single case report of urticaria.1 Over the next twenty years, in a classic epidemic pattern, the literature burgeoned and there is now a vast body of immunological knowledge, cross-sectional surveys, and unusual case presentations; but relatively little decisive epidemiology and curiously little from the United Kingdom.
