Description

Information from autopsies would be significant for clinical governance if case selection is appropriate, the autopsies are performed well, and the resulting information is fed into the audit processes for hospitals and community doctors. At present none of these criteria are systematically followed, and the Coronial process further inhibits their application. What happens next will depend on Trusts attitudes to clinical governance, the Home Office review of the Coronial system, and pathologists approach to their autopsy work.
