Description
In 1977 Goldman produced his risk index for patients with cardiovascular disease undergoing non-cardiac surgery. Detsky in 1986 produced a further set of guidelines. There have been a number of advances both in the assessment and management of these patients since then. The aim of this article is to summarise the key points in the management of such patients and to highlight the more recent developments.
