Sarcoidosis is a protean, systemic granulomatous inflammatory disorder of unknown aetiology. Ocular sarcoidosis occurs in up to 60% of patients, and can arise jointly together with the systemic disease or as an isolated entity. Ocular manifestations vary widely, and can hence prove diagnostically challenging. The visual prognosis for patients can be <6/36 in up to 22% of cases. In this comprehensive review of ocular sarcoidosis, we consider current aetiological concepts, the diverse ocular manifestations, the best approach for diagnosis and treatment, and the long term prognosis for our patients.
