I am delighted to welcome fellow members of the British Geriatrics Society (BGS) to this their second volume of CME Journal Geriatric Medicine. As the adopted CME Journal of the British Geriatrics Society, the editorial board and I will strive to meet your CME needs. As always, I would welcome feedback from readers as to how you would like to see the journal develop, its educational content and any recommendations for future topics to be reviewed. If you consider yourself an expert in any particular aspect of caring for older people then why not offer to review that area, the worst I can say is “we would welcome your submission for consideration”!

This edition of the journal continues to reflect the diversity of our specialty with articles on chronic renal disease, urinary catheters, stroke, elder abuse, and drug induced movement disorders. I am grateful to all contributors for providing their MCQs in best of five format, no mean feat they will tell you!

As we prepare for Christmas spare a thought for your hard working teams and offer them some words (perhaps on a Christmas card) of thanks for helping you to do your best for the frail older patients under your care. We would not be where we are now without their dedication and support. It does not take much to say thank you but it can mean a lot!
