I am pleased to say that we have had some good and very encouraging feedback from our readership, following the appearance of the first issue of the Bulletin last November. Some of you will have been at the Haematology 98 meeting that was held at the College in January which also served as the launchpad for the journal. This proved to be an excellent event and our eleven speakers ensured that this was a stimulating day covering a very wide range of topics. We intend to hold a similar Update meeting next year – by popular request!

The MCQ component of the journal has proved particularly welcome and you may have noted from the current College Bulletin that this development will increasingly feature in other established journals. The more observant of you will have noticed an unfortunate gremlin that affected the numbering of the last MC questionnaire, however this will not have affected marking or the award of credits (which appear in the bottom right hand corner of the return slip). It is intended that the Bulletin remains free to individual readers although I understand from the publisher that a charge will be made in future for processing the CME points. At the present time a subscription charge applies to libraries, other institutions, haematologists outside the UK and non haematologists.

I hope this issue continues to fulfil the expectations raised by its predecessor. We welcome Dr Kwee Yong as our associate editor on transfusion matters and hope that we will soon have a page on the World Wide Web for those of you fortunate and far sighted enough to have access to the net (see sandwich makers vs modems – this issue). Please do let us have your comments, whether about the journal itself or its contents. We welcome letters that may be published and would be happy to receive unsolicited contributions for publication. This applies particularly to case reports, providing they are of a high standard and serve to educate and entertain.
