CPD Anaesthesia goes on line.

CPD Anaesthesia is now available on line. The website address is www.rila.co.uk. From now on the paper based edition of CPD Anaesthesia will be available by subscription only (page 57). We hope that you will find the on-line journal as useful as the printed version. One advantage is that all the articles are available on line at any time and the site can be searched using the search engine on the journal welcome page. The review articles will in time build to form a large searchable reference base. I urge those of you who run specialty websites, including departmental websites to add a link for CPD Anaesthesia. The website will have open access and in the near future the MCQ paper will also be available to complete on line. Follow the on screen instructions to register for CPD credits.

The satisfactory completion of the MCQ paper at the back of the journal earns CPD points from the Royal College of Anaesthetists. We feel that the development of distance learning is vital to a busy and diverse clinical speciality such as Anaesthesia. The ability to keep up to date in areas that are not your main speciality interest is increasingly difficult. Clinical commitments often restrict conference attendance to speciality interest areas only in order to keep up to date in your own field. We hope to help to fill this gap. As part of this continuing development we have also introduced a new section of the journal concentrating on equipment, an area in which many anaesthetists feel that they are often not exposed to new developments.

We would also like to notify anaesthetists of the launch of a new society, the Society for Education in Anaesthesia (SEAUK). This may appear to be just yet another society, but we feel that this will complement the vital work already undertaken by the Royal College of Anaesthetists. Although they already organise educational training and meetings for College Tutors, there are no regular meetings for the many anaesthetists interested in education, who aren’t College Tutors. SEA (UK) is intended to meet that need. The society will cater for anaesthetists with interests in any sphere of education from undergraduates to consultant CPD, including those interested in anaesthetic simulation. It is intended that in addition to providing a forum, SEA(UK) will run workshops for teachers.
