Description
Recent years have seen an expansion in the use of laparoscopic techniques within paediatric surgery. This includes their use for younger patients including neonates and infants and their application for a wider range of surgical procedures. Perceived advantages of this approach include improved cosmetic results, reduced post-operative pain, fewer wound complications and quicker functional recovery. This review article highlights the physiological consequences, potential complications and anaesthetic techniques used for paediatric laparoscopic surgery.
