Description
Improvements in hygiene, diet and advances in public health are dramatically altering population demographics in the United Kingdom with an estimated 20% of the population over 60 years of age by the Millennium. An estimated fifty percent of people passing their sixth decade require surgery before they die. Increasing numbers of elderly patients will therefore present for surgery over the coming decades.
