Description
There will be an increasing number of adults with Cystic
Fibrosis requiring care by adult physicians in the next decade.
Advances in our understanding of the genetic defect in CF
will lead to trials of new therapy but the emphasis in the
clinic remains aggressive treatment of infections. Chronic
Pseudomonas aeruginosa colonisation can be delayed
by prompt treatment of the first isolate and daily prophylactic
therapy with inhaled anti-Pseudomonal agents is recommended
once chronic colonisation occurs. The challenge is to improve
on current survival curves whilst acknowledging the needs
of young adults to lead as normal a life as possible.
