Description

The commonest ophthalmic surgical procedure is cataract surgery and local anaesthesia is most often preferred, but provision of service varies worldwide. Types of local ophthalmic anaesthesia available include topical, peribulbar (extraconal), retrobulbar (intraconal), and sub-Tenon’s block. There are specific indications for general anaesthesia in ophthalmology.
We aim to provide a practical approach to ophthalmic regional anaesthesia, in a question and answer format.
