A safe and effective vaccine against rotavirus could decrease mortality and morbidity from diarrhoeal disease around the world. However there were concerns about the safety of the first, licensed rotavirus vaccine. Other rotavirus vaccines are in development, but will need extensive studies to ensure they are safe and effective.
