Description
In order to handle minor surgery specimens
as they are cut from the surrounding skin a
variety of instruments can be utilised. The
requirements for the histopathologist are very
different to those for the surgeon. For the
surgeon a secure, manoeuvrable and easily
handled instrument is ideal. However the
histopathologist requires a specimen free of
crush artefact. In addition tension applied by
the surgeon to the instrument may well cause
the specimen to tear thereby destroying the
histological appearance.
