Description
The virology and epidemiology of hepatitis A, B and C is well understood, however, there remain a number of cases of presumed viral hepatitis that cannot be explained on the basis of these agents. Hepatitis E is an RNA virus spread by faecal-oral route and causes an acute hepatitis that is rarely fulminant. Hepatitis G (or GBV-C) and Transmitted Transfusion Virus (TTV) are blood borne hepatotropic viruses. There is however, little evidence that these agents cause significant acute or chronic hepatitis.
